Poppies Popping Up

Working with my vivid background, I felt anything that I put on it would have to be strong.
I chose the bright pink because I could see large poppies "popping" up.

I used paint to add detail to the center.

I know this doesn't look like much and I questioned if I were just ruining my fabric.

After I added a gathering stitch close to the center, poppies were starting to emerge.
Maybe??

Please, come back and see what happens next..........

"Where Is Cornelia?"

Hi, I am continuing to work on my "Where Is Cornelia?" wall hanging.

After using colored pencils in the background of my "Where Is Cornelia?" quilt, I found matching metallic thread and added some stitching on the edge of the flowers.

They are already fused onto the background so the stitching is only ornamental. (See all the things you can do to avoid actually finishing a project!)

My next search was for interesting, complimentary fabric that I could use for a binding. I came up with this after rejecting several other choices. The curving lines seem to add to the center design without competing with it. So, on I go.

But.....

Wait!

The fact that the fabric was cut along some of the swirls inspired me to start thinking in a new direction. What if I added some of the swirls to the edge of the design?
(Yes, I know, another way to prolong finishing it!)

Maybe next week????

Tuesday's Tile Raided the Jewelry Box

Quilter's Tile - Silver, Bronze and Gold

Are you looking for an added accent for your quilting project?  It could be as close as your jewelry box.

I have a collection of jewelry that I will no long wear but some of it just could show up on a quilted piece.

A pair of earrings found its way into this Quilter's Tile.

First, I used Shiva Artist's Paintstiks to add a design to my fabric. The metallic paint was then enhanced by beads and the bronze and gold earrings.

Hand-stitching with silver and bronze metallic thread completed the tile.

(By the way if you were counting, I really don't have three ears. The third piece came from the matching pin.)

Today's Quilter's Tile is made of marbled fabric which I cut and added around a center marbled piece created by "Lost Marbles" by Debi Huff.

I added writing with a Pigma pen and handstitching.

The edge was finished off with hand beading.

Floating on a cloud
Peaceful, gentle breeze

This week's project is one that enabled me to enjoy the gentle art of hand stitching. Everything here was done with a hand needle, a spool of thread and a bit of heavier pearl cotton thread.

Also, my color muse was on vacation and I only used white muslin. This was a stretch but I do like the result.

I had the opportunity to play with yo-yos, different sizes, shapes and applications. Some were appliqued around the edge, and some were attached just at the center.

To make a yo-yo, a row of hand stitching is done on the edge of the circle.

The thread is pulled to gather.

The yo-yo is complete with the gathering centered.

The fun begins as you change where the gathering is located.

As these off-centered yo-yos are placed, the fabric starts to balloon. Therefore, the large ones were furrowed, a method where the ballooning fabric is tacked to make a lovely, textured surface.
